Tammi Ramsey
Teacher, Mother, and Volunteer in Columbus, Ohio
Hey, I’m Tammi. I’m a teacher living in Columbus, Ohio. Iam currently teaching Contemporary World Issues and Coding at Washington High School in Washington Court House, Ohio. In previous years at WHS, I've taught Economics, Financial Literacy, American History, American Studies, and Current Events.
Before my most recent teaching position, I was teaching World History and Honors World History at Purnell Swett High School in Pembroke, North Carolina. Purnell Swett was a safe learning environment in which I continued to learn about the teaching profession and try new things.
During the 2012-2013 school year, I taught 8th grade Social Studies at Carver Middle School in Laurel Hill, North Carolina. It was an awesome first year!
I am 2011 graduate from The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio with a Bachelor of Arts in Adolescent-Young Adult (grades 7-12) Social Studies Education and a Bachelor of Science in History. I completed my student teaching at Wadsworth High School, in Wadsworth, Ohio, working with 9th and 10th graders.
I am also a 2018 graduate from Slippery Rock University in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. I completed a Master's of Arts in History degree and studied an array of topics. My favorites included the opium trade in China and Afghanistan under British rule, the Tudor dynasty, and Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Middle East.
I was involved in Kappa Kappa Psi and Omicron Delta Kappa at The University of Akron. I have held numerous positions of leadership within the organizations. I was in Ohio's Pride, The University of Akron's Marching Band, for 4 years as a member of the saxophone section.
Most recently, I've been the Varsity Girls' Soccer coach and Varsity Assistant Softball coach at Washington High School. I've also coached three years of Junior Varsity softball at Cloverleaf Senior High School, which is located in Lodi, Ohio. I then accepted the Varsity Assistant Softball Coach position at Chippewa High School in Doylestown, Ohio. While at Carver and Purnell Swett, I coached the school softball team; I hope to continue to coach where ever I teach.
My coaching philosophy and my teaching philosophy are one and the same; I believe that the field is just an extension of the classroom setting. I want to develop a comfortable classroom setting where students are encouraged to learn, explore and challenge themselves and develop their critical thinking and analytical skills in the world of social studies.
