In a class at Uni we were given 15 seconds to write who we are on a piece of paper and do you know what I wrote?

I wrote: I am

That’s it! And so my lecturer asks for feedback when she picks me, so I say my two words and a guy in front of me turns around and says, ‘whoa, that’s deep!’ Ha, I wish. However, this is not unlike the bigger picture of my life. Here I am, simply frozen because there is so much going on and I feel like I have such little time and somehow my passions that are deepest within me find a way to rise to the surface.

I am studying education and I long to see every child, no matter their race, location, economic status, family life, hobbies or abilities to be given the opportunity to learn and to live. And not just to live where they have clean water and food to eat, but to really live. To have a full life! A life filled with love, value and hope.

I am a 22 year old girl and have an interest in seeing girls needs met across the globe such as the work of Days for Girls. I was a young school aged girl not so long ago and I had it easy. And why? Because I was born into a good family in a western country? It’s unjust that simply because girls are born in (a family they didn’t choose) a different part of the world that they have to fight for what I took for granted.

I am a Christian and am captivated by the bible’s teachings and how it tells us to live. I continue to learn more everyday and be continuously challenged by it’s words. A book full of such powerful love, undeserved grace and countercultural messages leads to me more questions than answers and an undeniable conclusion that I simply need Jesus in my life.

I am quietly creative and love opportunities to dabble in art, weave my hair and bake without any care for instructions. From drawing to card-making, cookies to cakes; these are hobbies that often fall to the ground as I am busy juggling other things. However, it is often when I myself feel like I too have fallen to the ground, feeling low or unsure of what direction I am heading, that I find these hobbies and appreciate how good they are for the soul.

I have fallen in love with a country named Kenya and it’s a place I call home. I am going there for a month this year and for 3 weeks of this time I’ll be leading a team of 11 others through Victorious Ministries. This is all my blog is about!

So if you haven’t met me, I am Tanika, and it’s an absolute pleasure to meet you.
