Tanmoy Datta

Bloomington, Indiana, United States

Hello all! My name is Tanmoy Datta and I am from Carol Stream Illinois. It is an hour northwest of Chicago. My biggest pet peeve is when people from Illinois say they are from Chicago when they are not from there.

When you live in a small town, you get bored quickly. In order to get out of my own boredom, I have tried new things every day to keep myself occupied. Whether it be walking in the depths of nature, riding my bike and cruising around town, or reading, I've found that my days have been great.

This summer has been extraordinary, and I have learned so much. So much so, that I do not think I want to stop. Recently I've learned that whenever life comes to a standstill, make a decision on impulse. If you think about taking a quick drive, immediately get up, grab your keys, and just go drive. Life is too short to think things through. Sometimes you have to get off your behind and Just Do It! Sorry Nike.

My business professor has told me that our brain is hardwired to avoid mistakes, and after that, we then seek out gains. We fear rejection, and as a result, we choose not to get out of our comfort zones. We are afraid to ask someone out on a date. We do not want to try out for a team because we do not think we are good enough. We are too afraid to swing the damn bat. In baseball, you have three strikes and you are out. In life, you can continue to get strikes. Just keep swinging. (If only Dory said just keep swinging instead of swimming. That was for you Finding Nemo fans.) People will not remember you for the strikes you got. They will remember you for the times you hit the ball. Swing the damn bat. Do not live your life in regret. Take those chances and act on impulse. Thank you Professor Harrison.
