Tanner Henkhaus
Hi; My name is Tanner Henkhuas. For my 5th period class we do something called STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), and IB (International Baccalaureate). This is a very informative class based on technology. We learn to do many things. We have done projects such as The 20% project, which is where we chose a topic, and then we did research, and completed projects about those topics. We also did a project called the "Simple Machines" This projects was in response to a video we saw about a person that was famous for his simple machines, AKA Rube Goldberg. In this project we had to hit a ping pong ball of its perch from 5 feet away. The last example that I will give is about a project called the Baseball Bungie. We tied baseballs to the wall, and saw how many rubber bands it took to make it almost touch the floor. My favorite project so far is the set of Trimester 2 20% projects.
This is a class that I always look forward to during the day. We do many "hands on" projects and use computers, math, science, engineering, problem solving, and even a litte bit of physics. Our director is amazing and dedicated, so kudos to Mr. Diaz. He has made this classroom awesome. We have a lounge area for socializing (always work related, of course), and 2 recording studios. As far as technology goes, we'll never be at a shortage. We have 4 really nice canon cameras, 3 27 inch imacs, a class set of laptops, and Ipads, and 3 mac minis, all hooked up to Rhode recording mics. If you want projects, fun, technology, math, science, engineering, and community understanding, then the STEM lab is where it all comes together.
