My name is Tarja Laine and I’m assistant professor of Film Studies at the University of Amsterdam. During my sabbatical leave in 2013 I started studying visual art at Wackers Art Academy. My decision to do so was an attempt to tackle the dilemma I was confronted with when I was in my early twenties: whether to go to an art school or to the university. I chose for the latter, but the question always haunted me: what would have happened to me, where would I be at, had I chosen otherwise. Now my aim is to find out whether I can still become an artist, and to what extent is it possible to combine artistic and scholarly practice. My blog is there to record my experiences as I attempt to re-invent myself.
