Karen Tate

My name is Karen Tate. I will complete my Masters degree in Elementary Education very soon, and I am looking forward to having my own classroom for the first time. I am a career switcher, having had careers in engineering and journalism.

For seven years, I have worked with all grade levels in an elementary school technology lab in Fairfax County. The highlight of my experience has been teaching SketchUp - a program that enables students to create 3-dimensional diagrams on the computer -- to 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade students.

I've had some exciting times during my student teaching experience this past year, and I can't wait to get started teaching tomorrow's leaders. I want to inspire young people to embrace a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) focused learning environment. Most importantly, I just want them to enjoy learning.
