Engineer. Problem solver. Builder. Dad.

I’m an industrial engineer with a lifelong interest in understanding how things work — and, perhaps more importantly, how they could work better.

My professional background has taught me to think in systems: to break complicated problems down, understand the constraints, look at the details, and then find a solution that works in the real world. I’ve always been drawn to the space between theory and practice — where an idea has to become something useful.

That mindset follows me outside work too.

I enjoy designing, building and improving things, from technology and home projects to the small practical problems that make everyday life work better. I’m the sort of person who will happily spend time understanding how something is constructed, why a particular solution is better, or whether there is a simpler way of doing it.

I’m also interested in design — particularly where good design is more than just making something look attractive. I like spaces and objects that are functional, considered and built to last. My approach tends to be a combination of engineering practicality and an appreciation for materials, proportions, lighting and detail.

Beyond engineering

Being a father is probably the most important part of my life.

It has changed the way I think about time, priorities and what is worth building — literally and figuratively. A lot of the things I care about now are connected to creating a good environment for family life: a home that works well, experiences worth sharing, and the curiosity and confidence to explore the world.

I enjoy travelling, discovering new places, spending time outdoors and finding experiences that are a little more interesting than simply following the obvious route.

I’m naturally curious. I tend to ask a lot of questions, challenge assumptions and go down the occasional rabbit hole when something catches my attention.

How I think

I’m a believer in understanding things properly.

That doesn’t necessarily mean making everything complicated. In fact, I usually prefer the opposite: understand the complexity, then find the simplest solution that genuinely works.

I value:

• Curiosity — asking why rather than simply accepting how things are.
• Practicality — a good solution has to work outside the spreadsheet.
• Continuous improvement — small improvements compound.
• Good design — function and aesthetics should reinforce each other.
• Attention to detail — the small things often make the biggest difference.
• Family and experiences — ultimately, that’s what all the optimisation is for.

Outside the spreadsheet

You’ll find me interested in an eclectic mix of things: engineering and technology, home design and construction, travel, interiors, products, practical projects and the occasional unnecessarily deep investigation into how something works.

I enjoy the satisfaction of taking something from an initial idea through to a finished result — whether that means solving a technical problem, planning a space, building something, or simply figuring out a better way to do something.

There is a common thread through all of it:

I like making things better.

A work in progress

I don’t think of a career — or life — as a finished product.

I’m still learning, still experimenting and still finding new things to be curious about. The engineering mindset gives me a framework for solving problems, but family, travel, design and the projects I take on outside work have broadened the way I think about what a good solution actually looks like.

For me, the interesting part is rarely just the answer.

It’s understanding the problem, working out what matters, and then building something better.
