Taylor Saunders
Student in Hamilton, ON, Canada
Born and raised in Hamilton Ontario Canada, Taylor developed a passion for education at a young age. Before university, Taylor was nominated to be a prefect by her high school teachers and peers. A prefect is a student who serves as a role model, mentor, and tutor for students within the school community. Taylor found tutoring students within her school community to be a very rewarding experience, and one in which she was passionate about.
Currently, Taylor is a Co-ordinator of the Student Life Mentor Program offered at Laurentian University. The objective of the Student Life Mentor Program is to help create smooth transitions for first and second year Laurentian students by providing them with the resources they need to be successful. As a coordinator, Taylor is responsible for hosting educational workshops, pairing students with an appropriate mentor, promoting the program to student body, and overall facilitation of the program to ensure its continued success.
In addition, to helping students succeed in their university careers, Taylor is also volunteering with the Coaching program, a partnership between The Learning Disabilities Association of Sudbury (LDAS), Laurentian University School of Education, Rainbow District School Board, Sudbury Catholic District School Board and Cambrian College. In the coaching program Taylor works one-on-one with a grade 7 or 8 student who has been identified with a learning disability, offering support to address their learning challenges.
Through the numerous amounts of work and experience Taylor has gained throughout her life thus far, Taylor has been able to help students achieve success in many different educational settings, from elementary, high school and post secondary. Through these incredible opportunities she has developed a love education and hopes to find herself a career within this field.
