Travis Cleaves is the Deputy Director of Research Informatics and Data Science at the ASH Research Collaborative, where he leads initiatives in EHR data collection, quality assurance, and system optimization to enhance healthcare research delivery. With deep health information management and informatics expertise, he has successfully implemented EHR systems, conducted interface testing and architecture reviews, and streamlined clinical data analysis across platforms like Cerner Millennium and Epic.
At ASH RC, Travis is pivotal in advancing the organization’s data infrastructure, ensuring the seamless integration of EHR and real-world data into the Data Hub to support hematologic disease research. He collaborates with cross-functional teams and vendors to enhance data quality, standardization, and interoperability, enabling researchers, clinicians, and industry partners to leverage high-quality data for clinical studies. His leadership drives strategic informatics initiatives, optimizing data workflows and analytical capabilities to support sickle cell disease (SCD) and multiple myeloma (MM) research.
Travis has extensive experience in HL7 v2, FHIR/JSON, and SQL, enabling seamless EHR integration, data workflow optimization, and regulatory compliance. Before joining ASH RC, he served as a Health Informatics SME at Booz Allen Hamilton and an Interface Architect/EHRM Ambulatory Portfolio Lead at MicroHealth, LLC, where he led teams in EHR integration, interoperability, and Meaningful Use attestations. His ability to enhance healthcare delivery through technology integration and process improvement has been a hallmark of his career.
He holds a BS in Biology from Prairie View A&M University and an AAS in Practical Nursing from Lone Star College. He is also a Certified ScrumMaster® (CSM®) and holds an Information Privacy and Security (IPS) certification.
