CNG technology can be applied to both local businesses and residents. There is tremendous potential for the company to expand its operations throughout Florida. Unfortunately, natural gas has been slow to gain traction in U.S. passenger vehicles; despite the international presence and utilization of the technology. Vehicles fueled with compressed natural gas are far more cost efficient, safe, and better for the environment than traditional gasoline-powered vehicles. Furthermore, the use of natural gas for transportation reduces the United States dependence on foreign oil.
With all these benefits, one has to ask why this technology hasn’t been demanded more by consumers and businesses in the United States. Perhaps TECO’s largest obstacle will be promoting the technology and informing the public of the advantages they would incur for converting to CNG. We believe with adequate social media presence, TECO Energy Inc. will see their subsidiary Peoples Gas flourish.
