I am primarily a nylon-string guitarist; however, in live performances I play basscello through digital signal processors; at studio sessions, I also play a variety of digitally-processed, non-traditional analog instruments such as bowls, rainsticks, slidewhistle, whistle-flutes, oceanharp, etc.

I began my study of the guitar in Chile and Uruguay (the latter under the guidance of Luis Acosta), and continued upon my return to the U.S. in the early 1960s under Sophocles Papas (classical) and Frank Mullen (jazz). Beginning in 1999, I have been studying improvisation under David Darling.

My principal collaborative project is the Lost Civilizations experimental music project (http://lost-civilizations.tumblr.com/), a duo with virtuoso reeds player Mike Sebastian. (http://www.alkem.org/mikesebastian/ ; http://dcic.alkem.org/band.html)(bass clarinet; tenor sax; saxello).

Performances by the Lost Civilizations experimental music project are totally unscored, unrehearsed and extemporaneously improvised on the spot. It has been described as:

"Combining atmospheric strings with Ayler-esque expression, this group provides a fundamentally different approach to improvisation, with a focus on mood, landscape, and intensity."

I am also involved in a project with Emily Chimiak (voice and violin) ( http://www.avec-la-muse.tumblr.com/), where I play nylon-string guitar. The project’s objective is to set some of Emily Chimiak’s French great-grandmother’s poetic musings to song, in French, as well as other, more contemporaneous works. Our debut performance is posted at http://goo.gl/3qLpMJ . A video shot by John Hallberg and Greg Hess for NPR's TIny Desk Concert contest (http://goo.gl/Ibv7lZ) was nominated for "Best Music Video" in the 2015 NOVA International Film Festival (http://www.novafilmfest.com/).
