This past year, I did something I never thought I would experience, which was being involved in a debutante. This experience was unusual and unexpected for me, as I was never intrigued by doing a debutante or coming out to society, as I did not fully understand the purpose of it. However, when my best friend asked me one day to do this experience with her, I was slightly hesitant, but little did I know this would be one of the best experiences I have ever had. Before even starting the experience, I had to do an interview, as the debutante only accepted forty girls, so I was extremely nervous because although this is something I was not interested in, I still wanted to get accepted. Later, I found out I was accepted into the experience, and this is when my journey fully started. Throughout this experience, I had to attend many different workshops consisting of etiquette classes, financial classes, classes with our escort and sisters, and, most importantly, waltz rehearsals. While doing all this, I learned the purpose of the debutante, which is not solely to be presented to society but to uplift my community through volunteering and to flourish into a young woman. Although I initially did this with my best friend, I gained many friends/sisters through this experience who helped me further my teamwork skills, public speaking skills, and more. At the end of the whole debutante experience, I was presented to society where I performed my dance with my junior escort and my senior escort, my father, and a final dance with all the new sisters I gained. This experience taught me so much about myself as I grew in many different aspects and felt prepared to enter the next chapter of my life.
