In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx where the "x" stands for independently organised. TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

At our TEDxDurhamUniversity event, our goal is to inspire with the meeting of minds between experienced speakers who are the leaders in their respective fields and intelligent students with fresh perspectives. We aim to combine the most inspirational TED Talks from the past with new undiscovered talent from a diverse range of backgrounds. The theme of “Patterns and Symmetry” should provide the basis for a sparking of intellectual creativity. The links between seemingly separate subjects will hopefully be revealed in the most intriguing way. It may stretch some of the speakers to the very edges of their comfort zone of expertise.
