The Teflon and Powder Coating Processes

Teflon Coatings

The aim of both Teflon coating and powder coating is basically similar, even though the processes used to apply all of them are slightly different. Both coatings should impart some specific property to the item that is being coated. For powder coating, the aim is a protective layer that will keep the item from being damaged, however with Teflon, often a non-stick surface is the property that is intended to be given to the item it's being put on.

The powder coating that will get applied is just that-a powder. It basically gets sprayed onto the surface and then dries to create a coating. Here's how the powder coating process works:

1. The powder is placed within the feeder unit for the spray gun. Compressed air within the unit then diffuses it in order that it becomes just like a liquid even though it is still technically a powder.

2. The gun siphons out the powder by pushing high velocity air and propelling the powder in the feeder to the gun.

3. Most guns can spray powder anywhere from 10 to 25 feet. Once the powder leaves the gun, it appears as though a cloud that's moving toward the product that is being coded.

4. An electrode around the tip of the spray gun emits electric power charge that's forwarded to the particles of powder when they pass through the tip. That charge causes the powder particles to start looking for something to latch on to and form a protective coating regarding this.

Therefore the powder coating process is very simple. After it has been applied, it is baked to the item. The entire process is very simple to a regular painting job, except powder coating comes with a large number of benefits over ordinary paint. For instance, any powder that does not affix to the product could be recycled, and the coating it offers is a lot thicker than paint.
