For nearly a century, the Temple Garden Club has rooted itself in the heart of Central Texas, cultivating not only flowers and trees but also a lasting legacy of community, conservation, and friendship.
Our Roots & History Organized on September 7, 1930, by City Federation Club president Mrs. Walter Saulsbury, the club federated with Texas Garden Clubs, Inc. on November 30, 1930, later joining National Garden Clubs, Inc. and District V. Guided by our early motto, “Plan for Beauty – Plant for Performance,” generations of members have dedicated their time, creativity, and passion to beautifying Temple and preserving its natural heritage.
A Legacy of Leadership & Tradition The Temple Garden Club has a proud history of state-level influence, producing leaders such as Mrs. Annavi Buchanan, who served as president of Texas Garden Clubs, Inc. from 1957 to 1959.
Today, members continue cherished traditions through our annual spring Horticulture Show, youth education programs like the Smokey the Bear contest, and Arbor Day tree-planting ceremonies at local landmarks including Temple College, Jackson Park, Miller Park, and the City grounds.
Now looking toward the future, the Temple Garden Club remains committed to its original mission of inspiring a love of gardening, protecting native plants, and serving the community. We invite you to grow with us!

The First Thursdays of each month from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon. Located at St Paul’s Methodist Church, corner of 49th Street and Avenue P.
