Monterey, California, United States

Tene Shake is an American seafood chef, serial entrepreneur and restaurateur who grew up in Monterey, California, a city known as the Sardine Capital of the World. Mr. Shake was brought up surrounded by great, fresh seafood and great seafood restaurants, which ultimately influenced him to pursue a successful career as an award winning chef. As a recipient of “America’s Young Chefs” by the American Academy of Restaurants and Hospitality Sciences, Tene Shake has gone on to be featured on and host food shows on national television. “Coastal Cuisine”, which Mr. Shake hosted in 2005 went on to win a TELLY award.

As the son of legendary Monterey chef and restaurant owner, Sabu Shake, Tene Shake’s experience and training in the culinary arts began while he was still a child. At the age of 11, for example, he worked as a cook at the Cove Restaurant for the Crivello Family. As a teenager, Mr. Shake was directly involved in managing his family’s fish market business and making deliveries to seafood restaurants in the area. Through his experience with other seafood chefs, fisherman and restaurant owners in his city, Mr. Shake was able to learn the ins and outs of the industry and from there begin to establish his own identity as chef. From these experiences, Mr. Shake learned the importance of delivering not just good food, but even better service to his customers.

Tene Shake is a graduate of Bethany University in California, and has had formal training at California Culinary Academy following the completion of his Bachelor’s from Bethany University. Mr. Shake has also attended classes Le Cordon Bleu and the International Culinary Center/French Culinary Institute. Presently, Tene Shake is the President of La Toque Blanche, a member of Chaine des Rotisseurs (the oldest and largest food and wine society), current President of the American Culinary Federation Monterey Bay Chapter, current adviser to the Monterey County Health Department, and current member of the advisory committee for the Drummond Culinary Academy at Rancho Cielo.
