Terence Ting

An avid writer at heart, Terence Ting Si Yuan, 21, discovered his passion and talent for writing at a young age when he came in first runner up in the 100 word epic challenge hosted by the Singapore Writer's Festival nearly six years ago.

As a growing teen, Terence used to conceptualise short creative stories and the study of literary works such as Macbeth. After graduation, Terence encountered many obstacles but it was also during this period of time when he channeled his interest in gaming and put it to good use by taking up a forum moderator position at a local gaming website covering DotA.

During his stint with the site, he covered numerous gaming events such as the World Cyber Games and Sendi Mutiara Multimedia (SMM), the world's largest DotA tournament at that time held in Malaysia. There, he picked up the tricks and trade of basic media coverage, crafting online news reports on tight deadlines and delving deeper into the formal journalistic style of writing that has made him who he is today.

Terence soon grew out of his role and shortly after joined the then Danish-based gaming organization, MeetYourMakers (MYM).

The Makers were world-renowned for signing the best players in their respective fields. Some obvious examples included multiple award-winning athletes Grubby and Moon, marking the definition of computer gaming as a competitive modern sport in the process.

Starting out as an editor in his first year, he got promoted in his second year to the overall editorial supervisor of his section after being recognized for his outstanding work and committment.

In his new job scope, he managed a group of multi-national writers all over the world, motivating them to work together as a team. He spearheaded the record-breaking coverage of SMM in 2009, which to date still stands as the site's most successful coverage with over 500,000 unique hits gained over the three days.

In 2011, he founded the number one eSports team in Singapore, Flash eSports. With the largely untapped Southeast Asian market, Terence aspires to make Flash the pinnacle of this thriving scene in the near future and build a professional gaming team out of the most seasoned and talented cyber-athletes the world has ever seen.
