Terrence Sommerfeld

Based in Chicago, Terrence Sommerfeld has more than forty years of experience as head of Metropolitan Real Estate Company. He seeks out diverse retail development opportunities that include freestanding properties and those within shopping centers. Terrence Sommerfeld established his company in 1973 and initially focused on providing brokerage services involving retail property transactions for single-purpose users in free standing developments.

In the early 1980s, Mr. Sommerfeld oversaw Metropolitan’s expansion into the development arena, initial focusing on the acquisition of existing free standing properties with ample parking. Through restoration and retrofitting, his company converted the buildings to new retail uses. This led to “build to suit” opportunities focused on large credit chain store businesses in the Chicagoland area and beyond.

Mr. Sommerfeld next expanded Metropolitan’s activities to include community neighborhood shopping centers, with a focus on those with small satellite tenants clustered around one or two anchor stores. He also launched Stonegate Development Group and oversaw a diverse range of condo and townhouse projects that included 20 and 40-story residential buildings.

Terrence Sommerfeld holds a BS in commerce from DePaul University and served as parliamentarian within the Tau Sigma fraternity while a student there.
