Terry Watson
For nearly 30 years, Terry Watson has worked with young people. He is the President of the Council for Educational Travel, USA (CETUSA), a position he has held for nearly 15 years. The organization helps international students travel around the world and engage in programs to further their education, learn about new cultures, and build long-lasting relationships.
Terry Watson is responsible for the overall direction of the many programs CETUSA offers. However, his efforts with young people extend beyond his professional career. Terry Watson is a Volunteer Coach for the Special Olympics of Washington. He began his participation with the Washington State branch of the global organization in 2003. Founded in 1968, the Special Olympics now serves over 3 million athletes with mental disabilities and offers participants access to year-round sports training and athletic competition. The goal of the Special Olympics is to give persons with intellectual disabilities a venue to display their talents and celebrate their successes. Terry Watson donates his time and efforts to train athletes in alpine skiing. Terry Watson also served on the board for the Association for Children with Down Syndrome (ACDS). The association was founded in 1966 on Long Island, New York, by a group of parents seeking assistance for their children with the disorder. As a Board member, Terry Watson helped the school achieve its goal of providing the tools these children need to succeed throughout life. ACDS facilitates numerous activities based on recreation and relief of daily struggles. The organization offers services to individuals in three age groups: early childhood and preschool years, children over five years old, and adults.
Mr. Watson’s professional career has revolved around helping students travel the world to experience different cultures and further their education in the process. Earlier in his career, he launched his own educational travel company, Intercultural Friendships, which focused on the facilitation of exchange programs. Mr. Watson was an Associate Director for the American Academic Youth Exchange and Vice President for the International Education Forum.
