Tevin Prince
Apopka, Florida, United States
Tevin Prince is the perfect blend for lovers of the old school sound, and for those of us who seek something new in this new age of rap and hip-hop. Born in Apopka, FL on Jan. 3, 1992, Tevin’s love for music began under the influence of everything else but hip-hop music. “Its crazy because my mother was really into Pop and R&B music, my grandmother was into country and oldies, my grandfather loved the blues, and my aunt was really into jazz. The only rap I really knew was Tupac and whoever was on the radio. I didn’t know Biggie or Mos Def. Id never heard of Talib kweli or even Nas. Hip-hop never entered my life until my father came”. Crediting his father for the spark that ignited his passion for the art form and the culture, Tevin has grown to perfectly embody the soul that once cultivated the air of the hip-hop music and culture. Inspired by the likes of greats such as Nas, Big L, GZA, and underground God, MF DOOM, Tevin reminds us why we fell so deeply in love with the art, music, and culture. “I’m from the place where they don’t think we can really rap. I’ve heard people say that southern rappers can’t rap. Or southern rappers don’t know hip-hop. I don’t want you to say that. There’s hip-hop here just like anywhere else. But I also don’t want to be just a southern rapper. I want to be hip-hop. I want people to hear me and say damn, that’s hip-hop”.
