Timothy Jorna
Recruiter in Amsterdam, Nederland
Almost 5 years ago I acquired my masters degree in Philosophy. I think. And I think.... And I think that Philosophy taught me a lot. I've learned to approach complex problems with an open mind and with different angles. I also consider myself ambitious, analytical, social and convincing. However, one of the most fruitful lesson has been to nourish my drive to learn more. And to push myself to the limit. I believe that you only develop yourself if you go beyond your comfort zone.
The past years I've been a successful technical recruiter.:
@ Darwin: I climed the sales scoreboard as a junior and was able to do 22 deals in 19 months.
@ Copernica: we hired 12 professionals in 9 months.
These experiences have changed the way that I think of selling/recruiting. I initially taught that working in a commercial environment entailed that you have push on everything and everyone around you; push without hesitation. I was wrong: a wealthy commercial environment and a successful company can only exist in a more or less humble setting. Listening to problems and offer solutions to real difficulties... The challenge is to 'add value' to all parties involved. Bringing people together and in my case case offer solutions to human resource related problems. It is subsequently only through this way of working that I can get any satisfaction out of the work I'm doing. Only with this attitude I feel I can progress and develop myself.
