Christen Fields-Carr
New Orleans, Louisiana, United States
My name is Christen Fields-Carr, the proud founder and CEO of The Bayou Refuge Ministries LLC. My purpose of creating such a ministry nonprofit is based in the broken and failing system of education, community development and resources and lack of unity, understanding and stability in the African American community of New Orleans, La. As a native and current resident of this forgotten city, I have witnessed the inequality when it comes to educational services and resources, creative arts, health and wellness resources and community development programs. What my ministries will be able to do is develop a respected and competitive school and community resource center that will promote the creative arts, education, community development and community outreach service and programs
I am a proud Southern from New Orleans, La who has returned home from Philadelphia. I am a recent graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Communications. I also have over 10 years of experience of Theatre, Musical Theatre, Dance and Voice which I will incorporate into my new certificate in Yoga Instruction and Aerobic Instruction. My career goal for coming back home to New Orleans was to revitalize and reconstruct local communities through holistic approach to the entire well being of New Orleans residents through the areas of artistic community development, community beautification and artistic unity within the neighborhoods of New Orleans.
The activities of my ministry nonprofit includes but is not limited to home restoration and creating affordable housing for low income families, housing for mental health facilities, drug and abuse rehabilitation, housing for homeless men, women, children and young adults, community activities such as community beautification through volunteer work and paid community internships for youth and young adults, family oriented activities such as the creation of parks, playgrounds and conservation of the natural beauty of rare New Orleans landscape, community based activities such as food drives, book drives, creating community fitness centers, artistic venues such as art galleries, live theater stages, recording studios, educational activities such as computer literacy courses, foreign languages courses, GED courses, college credit courses, GRE prep courses, SAT prep courses, literacy courses, English as a Second Language, parenting and childcare courses and college level courses
