For me, soccer isn’t just a sport; Soccer is my way of life. Soccer is a major part of my past, present, and hopeful future. It has been a driving force from my youth, I am so grateful I have come to love the sport. This inveterate love for the game has inevitably led to my mastering of it. Through mastering and growth in the game of soccer, I have learned a vast amount of knowledge in other aspects of life. I have learned the cliché lessons: Teamwork, hustle, etc. But on top of those, I learned about the immense payback from the pursuit of perfection in anything I do. I would stay outside with my dad for hours trying to beat my old juggling record or learn a new move. I can apply this drive to anything, including my writing skills. I will work tirelessly to analyze the meaning of a poem, find symbols, uncover deeper themes, and write a flawless paper. This same drive can also lead to disappointment if I don’t attain my desired outcome. For example, if I don’t score in a soccer game, I will get angry with myself, almost to the point of mental torture. I always think, “What if I did this? What if I would’ve taken the shot?”. This anger spawned from inadequacy leads to subsequent success in all walks of life. Success is nothing without the toil of climbing, that is the biggest lesson soccer has taught me.
