The Ex Local

So. Basically I’ve returned to Sydney, Australia after a very long time living overseas. You can read about how I experienced living in Amsterdam here and follow my soul-searching adventure through Central America here.

But now that I’m back in Sydney I find myself in somewhat of a no-man’s land. My idea of becoming a linen-clad yogi, which seemed completely plausible whilst travelling, is probably not going to come to fruition. Nor do I find myself feeling completely comfortable in the familiar sights, sounds and smells of Sydney. Has anyone else noticed this city constantly emits delicious wafts of toast?

I brought my delightful and courageous Dutch husband with me, the Dutchie, and I’m finding myself seeing this vibrant city more and more through his eyes. My experience is coloured by a decade of living and travelling elsewhere, and I’m curious about my new place in my old city.

Luckily, the one thing hasn’t changed. Sydney’s mild massive obsession of #yum.

And here I am, seeking it out for you and me. Playing with all the delectable flavours available. Revelling in the choice of 10 million different types of everything. Marvelling at the sheer size of most things. Trying to drink as much coffee as possible in the name of discovering perfection in a paper cup. And above all attempting to redefine who I am, starting with my stomach.

As they say in Amsterdam, Eet Smakelijk!
