Although my mother gave birth to me in Longview, WA, my soul was born during woodshop at Kelso High School (Class of ‘58). It was there that I became fascinated with the smell, the grain and the magic of wood. After college, serving in the U.S. Air Force and doing time as a retail manager, the door slammed shut on my then career.
As they say, when a door closes another one opens and in 1981, with the support of my late wife Eileen and several good friends, I went into business for myself restoring, repairing & refinishing furniture. The first year was brutal, but over the 30+ years, I learned many lessons, made wonderful friends, met people I never would have dreamed of meeting and eventually became a master of the trade. The lessons didn't always come easily, but I reveled in the knowledge that I was helping preserve history while keeping furniture functional.
When my landlord passed away the property where I had leased my shop was sold. I decided to retire. Retirement created a different void in my soul. Letting the years of lessons learned fade away without passing them onto another generation became my nemesis. There had to be a way to pass on my trade to another generation to preserve the art. Then Eileen passed, leaving me bereft and my soul barren.
After several months, the mission to teach my craft began to reassert itself. With a new creative partner, The Pulchritudinous Troll was born. Working together to combine strengths and knowledge, my life has taken on new meaning and my commitment to pursue my passion has metamorphosed.
The Pulchritudinous Troll is known for transforming old or damaged furniture and treasures (even from fire/flood) back to a state where you can be not only proud to own it, but continue to use it for many generations to come. Contact us today!
