Dream Job: Librarian
- I would want this job mainly because of the noise levels. While I can handle noisy places over long periods of time, I'd really rather not. I also really like the atmosphere that comes with libraries or bookstores and think I could be comfortable working in that sort of environment.
Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of library experience OR high school diploma/GED and 7+ years of library experience.
Salary: AVG $43k-89k/yr
Skills:
- Communication
- Good communication skills are important for any job really, but they're vital for service jobs like this one. People typically aren't going to be able to look for what they want to if the employee isn't helpful.
- Coordination
- Being able to organize things and work your way around with relative ease is super important for library layouts. Everything has a place and it'll make your job much easier if you know where those places are.
- Problem Solving
- Using reasoning to solve any problems that come up in a relatively quick manner can be extremely useful in this field of work.
- Digital Literacy
- Many things in the modern world are done online, including managing books. Should you have to do inventory checks or even check a book out for someone, it would be useful to have knowledge of the software being used.
- Relating to Others
- Unlike most service jobs, librarians are often required to understand people on a personal level. Whether that be to give proper recommendations or aid them with something else they need, librarians should be able to be understanding and considerate towards others.
