Becky Theisen
My name is Becky (not Rebecca). I grew up in a small town in northeastern Indiana, the first grandchild on my mom's side of the family. Since both of my parents came from large families that lived in the area, I have TONS of relatives there. Although it was a safe, quiet place to raise a family, I really never pictured myself living there for the rest of my life. And I certainly couldn't imagine marrying any of the boys I grew up with – there are pictures of me kissing one of them in a kiddie pool when we were three or four years old that could be used for blackmail!
Thus when the new kid hit town when I was about 16, he immediately caught my eye. One of my posts will probably address our courtship, but suffice it to say, I married my high school sweetheart. We just celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary! Our children are grown and we are enjoying the empty nest. We have lived in Austin, TX, for 30 years. It's nothing at all how I pictured a Texas town would be, much more hilly and green, with plenty of great music and even better food! My son and his new wife live within 30 minutes of our home and my daughter is in San Antonio, enjoying being on her own and out of college. I can understand why some people have difficulty letting their children walk off into the world, but personally it has been such a joy and blessing watching my kids turn into responsible adults. We may not always see eye to eye, but I respect them as individuals. They are kind, thoughtful, strong, loving people; I hope I had something to do with that. But mostly I hope they continue to grow in their faith and find their way to God. A wise man once said it is our responsibility to lead our spouse and children to heaven. That is an awesome responsibility that puts our relationships into the proper perspective. What joy we will know as we live eternally with our God!
