I spent about half of my years in highschool around people who were terrible in social situations. For a little over two years, I worked at a comic and card store called Superheroes in Newnan, Georgia. I spent a bulk of those two years helping to build a community and to provide a safe space for those who felt they had none.

At the shop, we had tables where people could sit down and play card games. Was it nerdy? Sure, but it gave people with an interest most would find odd a place to really express themselves. It gave people a place to find friends, which everyone needs. It was always great to see new people make connections with one another, and I think giving people a community was one of the best parts of the job.

You might be asking how this relates to me specifically. Well, I love building communities. At this point in our lives, we really know nobody here. Some of us might already have some friends, some of us might not. Regardless, walking out of this class knowing everybody would be something to cherish.

Obviously I don't think I can say I worked at a comic book store and not state that I love superheroes. Anything fantasy or sci-fi interests me, and I spent a LOT of time reading comic books while working there. Was it because I got a 25% discount? Yeah a little bit, but it doesn't take away from the love I have for them.

Along with that, my job helped me get very good at getting along with all different kinds of people. I like to think it helped to make me approachable, so to anyone who's actually reading this (maybe you're just looking for an example for what to write), please don't hesitate to say hello.
