The Mesh Warrior

Like many of you, I am many things to many people.
I am a wife; a mother to one angel baby; two step-kids & two fur babies; a daughter; a sister; an aunt; a grand-daughter; a god-daughter; and a friend. When Mesh came into my life, I faltered and failed in a lot of those roles. But as the daughter of a mesh-injured woman, I’m learning how to do things a bit differently now, and I’m gaining a new set of skills to be part of my mother’s and my family’s recovery. If you are mesh-injured and find your most treasured relationships don’t work like they used to, you’re not alone. There are many who can help. I’m just one of them.
Mesh doesn’t define my mother or me as people, like it used to, but it’s still a huge part of our moment-by-moment story and of our whole family’s daily life.
Despite that reality, I am playing and have played lots of roles.
Most importantly, I am a PATIENT ADVOCATE, for those injured by transvaginal mesh and for their families. I like to think of myself as “The Mesh Warrior” or as “Aaron Brockovich” or on some days “Aaron Brockobitch.”
But, I was also a waitress once. And then a few more times after that.
Another time I was a “Senior Account Supervisor.” Sounds mildly important, but not too threatening, huh?
Once I worked in a gift shop. I cleaned a lot of glass shelves.
I have been a food judge for the State Fair of Texas for 5 years now. I recently got promoted from Candies/Truffles to One-Pot Meals. I’m pretty stoked.
I was a Marathoner. Once. No really, like I ran one marathon. I have the shirt to prove it.
I am a music lover and DJ – they call me “DJ AA” (read: DJ Double A). My debut was at my 20-year high-school reunion’s After Party, so that is why I feel I am a legitimate DJ.
Another time I was a publicist for an Italian chef, who drew his facial hair on with magic marker and eyeliner before every public or television appearance- no lie.
I had the privilege of being driven around Miami by two Catholic nuns in a golf cart once. You can email me about that hilarious experience, if your souls begs to know more.
According to Meyers-Briggs, I am an ENFP.
According to Gallup, my Top 6 Strengths in order are: Restorative, Strategic, Learner, Input, Activator and Empathy.
