Dr Jason Gillis

Dr. Jason Gillis is an Assistant Professor working in the Human Performance Laboratory at Salem State University, just outside Boston, USA. He conducts research and teaches courses in strength and conditioning, exercise physiology, exercise testing and prescription, and research methods.

Dr. Gillis is an environmental physiologist by training and has a research interest in the influence of menthol on human temperature regulation, perception and performance. As a former fighter, he also has an interest in the science of combat sports. Jason has conducted research with the UK Ministry of Defense, charities like the Royal National Lifeboat Institute, rehabilitation hospitals in Canada and Norway, and in the sports drinks and supplement industry.

Jason completed his B.Sc (Hon) in Kinesiology at Dalhousie University in Canada, and went on to complete his Masters at KU Leuven University in Belgium, and at the Norwegian School of Sports Science in Norway. He completed his PhD in England as part of the Research and Innovation Team at UK Sport in the run up to the Beijing and London Olympic Games.

Whether as a scientist, athlete, or coach, Jason is passionate about sports. He has a background in mixed martial arts and a particular interest in the science of fighting. In his spare time, he provides scientific support to athletes and coaches in combat sports.
