Theodore Walrond
Neuroscience Graduate and Divemaster in Tampa, Florida
Theodore Walrond, who goes by Rex, is a University of Florida graduate based in the Tampa Bay area. At UF he earned a B.S. in Psychology with a concentration in Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience, graduating cum laude, and he later completed graduate coursework in finance at the University of Notre Dame. Today he lives in St. Petersburg, Florida, and is building an early-stage venture in consumer health.
His research background covers two projects. At UF's McKnight Brain Institute (2022–2023), Theodore Rex Walrond analyzed more than 300 studies on whether a subarachnoid hemorrhage can raise the later risk of Alzheimer's disease. In the summer of 2021 he tracked more than 25 COVID-19 drug candidates for Romark Laboratories in Tampa. He has also volunteered with the American Parkinson Disease Association as an Impact Partner.
Much of his free time is spent underwater or above treeline. He is an SDI Divemaster and was a divemaster and teaching assistant for UF's Scientific Diving Program from 2020 to 2023, most often in Florida's freshwater springs. On land, he made a guided climb of Mount Rainier with International Mountain Guides in 2020 and has backpacked the Four Pass Loop, the John Muir Trail, the Teton Crest Trail, Glacier National Park and the High Sierra.
