Theo Plothe

As a doctoral candidate in Communications at American University, Theo Plothe is currently working on the dissertation topic, "Defining Participatory Media as Gamespace: Digital Games, Remix and the Materiality of Gamespace.” Through this disseration, Plothe explores the intriguing nature of social and digital media and digital gaming as an impact the remix culture today. He does so through a thorough study of gamespace concepts and participatory media.
He obtained his Master in Arts from Northern Illinois University in Media Studies and Journalism, ending with a thesis titled "Tweeting from the Endzone: NFL Players and Twitter Revolution." This particular research was also based on exploring the implications of digital media. As an undergrad, Theo Plothe took the opportunity to explore his many interests by majoring in General Studies and minioring in a wide range of subjects like Japanese, German, History, Asian Studies and Political Science from Ball State University.
With deep-rooted curiosity about world culture and an even deeper desire to see the world, it is unsurprising that Theo Plothe's interests have taken him far and wide to places like Germany, Sweden, Ireland, England, China, Korea, Japan and Hong Kong through various means of visiting, studying and even teaching. At Ball State he also worked with Linguistics and TESOL, allowing him to give back a little to the communities in his travels by teaching English in Korea and Japan.
Theo Plothe employs his multilingual academic background and his unique perspective to provide a learning experience for his students from all walks of life, catering to their needs based on language, culture and age. It is a two-way street and through teaching, Theo Plothe attempts to drink in a little bit more about the world and its many many cultures.
