Theresa Liu
Student, Volunteer, and athlete in Troy, MI
Hello there! I am Theresa Liu, a senior at Troy High School in Troy, Michigan. I'm not very good with computers so I have no clue if this is going to turn out the way I want it to.
If there were five words to describe me, they'd be: (1) determined, (2) scattered, (3) compassionate. (4) always tired (pretend that's one), and (5) accessible
1) Determined: I didn't want to put down "ambitious" because I've been told the word is a double edge sword and can be interpreted in a negative way. I believe that I am persistent with the things I am passionate about. My mom accuses me of inconsistency, claiming that I don't wash the dishes or clean my room with the same verve that I approach schoolwork and extracurricular activities. I'm still learning to be okay with losing and not accomplishing everything I want to.
2) Scattered: I must be completely honest- I am guilty of being rather unorganized. My room is currently a mess but I am working on it! Some tips from a recovering scatterbrain: Google Calendars literally saves lives and dignity. Also, color code your closet to give it an aesthetic-it's also more motivation to stay neat.
3) Compassionate: Again, I'm going to be honest and admit that this was a journey. I wasn't the nicest girl in middle school, but after moving states and entering a new school, I learned to be more empathetic of other's situations and understand the many layers to a human. It's hard to be nice and understanding 24/7 but I hope that I can utilize that to make small impacts in everyone's lives.
4) Always tired: Exhausted, fatigued, sleepy. All of the above. Playing water polo, swimming, synchronized swimming really do a number on me. Also possibly may be because of thyroid issues that run in the family. I try to keep myself awake by listening to loud music.
5) Accessible: I want to always be there for someone. Having a reliable friend is incredibly special and I try my hardest to be that person. This doesn't just mean being accessible to friends and family, but also to the community! I garden at the local senior center, raise money for the American Cancer Society, and try to do small tasks here and there.
I hope this information sufficiently summarizes me :-)
