What is Thermal Overload Protector?

What is thermal overload protector? In layman's terms, it is a device that is used to protect the wires that carry electricity from shorting out. The primary use for this device is in industrial applications such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. In such applications, a short circuit in one wire can cause a fire or electric shock in the other wire. This is because when a wire in one area shorts out, the insulator in the other wire contracts causing a small voltage across the wires.

You need to have a multimeter in order to operate on what is called thermal overload. This is actually not the problem. The trouble is that you are working with a limited range of frequencies that the electrical motors used in industrial applications use. These motors have a maximum operating frequency that they are designed to work with. If you try to operate on a frequency higher than that, they become damaged.

Now back to the original question: what is a thermal switch? A thermal switch is a safety device for your multimeter. When you are working on thermal overload, one wire in your machine may become shorted out. To prevent this, the thermal switch is used to cut off the current so that you can shut the device down.

How is a thermal overload protector different from a thermal limiter? The safety issue here is that you do not want to get a circuit hot while you are testing. If the circuit gets too hot, you may damage the device you are testing. With a thermal limiter, however, you cannot reverse the polarity of the input signal. So, when you are testing the circuit, you will want to have both a thermal limiter and thermal protector. This will help protect you from any damage that can be caused by over-heating the signal.

Both of these products come in one package. They are made up of a circuit board that interfaces with your multimeter. There are usually one or two wires on the board, which plugs into the USB port of your multimeter. The thermal fuse and thermal switch then came together with the multimeter leads.

If you want to have both a thermal overload protector and thermal fuse, it is easy to find them. Just go online or call your local electronics store and you will be able to find them. You can also shop at eBay and other retailers. In general, they are about the same price. Usually, they range between two and five dollars.
