The Rural Root
Hi! Welcome to The Rural Root!!
My name is Jill. My sister Lin and I have decided to have some fun blogging by sharing family recipes both old and new. This is a work in progress so please feel free to check back often to see how we are doing and what's new!
The name, Rural Root comes from Rural Route #3, the only mailing address we had back in the 50's when our family moved to the outskirts of a small New England town, where we still live.
Our Mom, now in her 90's, instilled in us at an early age that good food and lots of vegetables are an important part of healthy living. We were always told "Try one bite, you don't have to eat it all" which got us to appreciate a variety of foods. Our family always had a large garden and as my sister and I grew up with families of our own, we continued to have a vegetable garden, and taught our own children to never be afraid to try new things.
We continue to value those old stand-by recipes but often add a new twist of our own. We love food and we love to share our creations! There's nothing better than someone asking for the recipe because “it's soooo good!” You will find our focus is in using fresh ingredients and showing you how easy it is to make healthy homemade meals.
With all the attention on today’s processed foods, we understand a bit more about how food affects our mind, body and soul. Knowing this it becomes easier to return to homecooking and healthier food choices that enhance our being rather than undermine it.
We hope you stick around and find some ideas and inspiration to use in your own cooking adventures!
Enjoy!!
Jill and Lin
