Sadie L
Student in Athens, GA
Hello!
My name is Sadie, and I’m a UGA student living in Athens, GA. My current major is microbiology, which is not what my younger self would have ever imagined.
On career dress-up day in elementary school, I would walk down the fingerpainted hallway wearing a crisp white lab coat, a plastic stethoscope around my neck, and a little stuffed animal in my pocket. I wanted to be a veterinarian with my whole heart. I lived on a small farm, so I would often assist in collecting eggs from the barn and bottle-feeding calves. My grandma helped me care for many small pets since I loved animals so dearly. I kept guinea pigs for a bit but quickly discovered I got rashes from cuddling them. We rehomed them and tried again with mice. That time, I hid my symptoms from my parents and got to keep them for their short 2-year lifespan. Recently, I took care of a pair of sugar gliders. Although they were the cutest animals I had ever seen, their nocturnal lifestyle wasn’t working out between us. Who knew they liked to bark at 3 a.m.? Yes, I mean bark.
Even with the sweetest of cats and dogs, I have allergic reactions after spending time with them, so the veterinary pathway might not be my true calling. Fortunately, since I was already mentally committed to years of college as a fact of life during my childhood, I have switched my focus to pharmacy, which will be a lot of schooling, but also an amazing opportunity to help people. I hope to job shadow a few pharmacists this year to explore the field before I commit to the challenge. All I can do is embrace the change headed my way.
Let's have an awesome semester!
