I put in my earbuds, press play, and let the music run free.
Music is a necessity to my everyday life as caffeine is to a coffee lover. I appreciate the different genres and moods that artists create. Classical music has gotten me through those painful high school assignments, Hip hop helped me finish that last stretch of a grueling run, and pop has helped make tedious chores more bearable. The versatility of different types of music is what makes it so great; there is a category of music suited for everyone’s tastes.
Personally, over the years I have taken a liking to most music categories, and I’m always open to trying out different music. I have many different playlists that compliment the mood I am in whether I am happy or sad. A song tells a story and gives emotion through the lyrics or the instruments. There are songs that either give positive or negative meanings, but it’s a form of expression that can be interpreted differently by each person.
Whenever I meet someone new, I always ask what kind of music they like, and I think it’s a good way for me to connect with people. Often, I associate certain events or memories with songs such as the summer where my friends and I had endless basketball games or songs that reminded me of long car rides to the beach. Music plays a big role in my life and continues to impact my everyday activities.
