It’s better yet if we go back

To the start

Into the heart

Of where it is that we began

The very essence of our soul

Is formed before our form is whole

And much is said about the essence of a man

Or of a band

And what’s the essence of a band

If not the songs?

And what’s the essence of a song

If not the source?

The source that gives the head a voice

When words of choice are written down

Then bound together with a sound

Which bounces ‘round until it’s found

Sound cannot be contained

Songs cannot be restrained

And the writer will write

In black on white

From the dawn of first light

Into the dark dead of night
