Thobelani Dubazana
My name is Thobelani Dubazana also known as Slash (stage name), a student at the University of Johannesburg, under the faculty of education. I grew up in the townships of Katlehong in EastRand under a disadvantaged family background and it wasn’t easy growing up under such circumstances but at the end it became a privilege, hence it made me to be a stronger person and look where it got me. I chose teaching because I believe in knowledge giving and information sharing hence there is a huge gap when it comes to knowledge, information or skills in the context of South Africa. Therefore I believe that with music, I can be able to feed hungry young and old minds with knowledge and information hence music gives us the opportunity to share knowledge, ideas, information, feeling and emotions, real life situations, etc. moreover my love for music is intertwined with my interest of teaching.
It was during the year of 2007 when I began writing my own material, then early 2010 I met Bongumusa also known as (Tweest). StreetBiz was formed during the year of 2010 when two artists met and collaborated to form a powerful and massive duo that we have today (StreetBiz). The first and successful project that we did was to release a mixtape which was composed by one of the experienced producers in East Rand namely Genetic, Mcedisi and Makwa. we also performed in various places around Katlehong and Kathorus as a whole namely Thokoza (home for the orphans, featured on a daily sun article), Zonkizizwe, Kwanele, Palmridge(Turn up) alongside Molly,Siya Shezi etc and as well as in radio stations such as on uKhozi fm (ucleva onga give up), Yfm (Siz and Scoop) and kasie fm interview. Furthermore, we also performed outside the country, in Zimbabwe at Bulawayo and Beitbridge with the likes of Bignuz (a multi award winning kwaito group)
