Thomas BOHL

Software Engineer and Multimedia Developer in Lyon, France

Work out with me

I was born in 1985,
just as computers were starting to take over the world (or at least the family living room). Since then, I’ve spent my life tinkering, hacking, and occasionally resurrecting machines.

It all started with my first Commodore (thanks, Dad!), followed by many more x86 systems, MidiBox PICs, a few (virtual!) Mackintosh, Raspberry Pis, Arduinos, iStuffs, Androids, ARMs, STM32s, ESP32s, and a lineup of both analog and digital synthesizers.

Along this journey, I’ve picked up:

- A love for GNU/Linux (aka the OS that always needs "just one more tweak")
- Some multimedia and creative skills
- A certain fluency in various programming languages
- Enough electronics know-how to be dangerous
- an understanding of the evolution of the Web, from Telnet to Git via ssh
- Some form of agility with most serial-based protocols
- A solid chunk of my English vocabulary
- A healthy respect (and suspicion) for AI and cryptography
- an oldschooler badge for some electronic music subculture

In short: I'm a die-hard, freedom-loving, DIY tech tweaker.

These days, I work as a freelance developer, teaming up with brilliant minds in digital art, live performance, and museum exhibitions.

Much of my work comes to life through HEMISPHERE, an artisanal tech studio I’m deeply involved in, known for its inventive, hands-on approach to tackling unconventional challenges.
Whether it’s designing custom installations, engineering interactive setups, or solving unusual technical puzzles, we thrive on pushing the boundaries of traditional tech solutions.

I also collaborate closely with KomplexKapharnaüm, a live street performance company that transforms
public spaces into immersive artistic experiences, as well as with other creative collectives.

Each project is an opportunity to blend technology and artistry in unique, impactful ways, keeping me inspired and always on the lookout for the next challenge.

And as you can expect, this bio has been polished up with the help of a large language model.

Best,

Thomas
