Thomas Borzecki

Thomas Borzecki is a Web Design and Development instructor at Humber College, in Toronto Ontario. His focus is on following web standards, accessibility, and best practices. Originally, he received a BSc. in Computer Science at Ryerson, in Toronto. Following some hands-on experience in the industry he then completed the Rich Media program with Honours at Humber College.

Thomas’s interests include both programming and working in any visually creative media. From a young age he began drawing, sketching and painting as well as working with several different forms of media. With the popularization of personal computers, Thomas became increasingly interested in what made these incredible universal tools work. In grade 7 he finally had a chance to work on a PC using the Turing programming language to create some games and procedurally-drawn graphics. He then spent months learning the BASIC programming language, and writing code on paper. Every once in a while he would get a chance to write code on a computer and test it, until one day he received an old Apple IIGS computer that allowed for graphical editing, programming and some room to hack at the unknown.

This progressed until the birth of the web, at which point Thomas put aside his desire to style dial-up BBSs’ and began delving into the languages that help to compose the web. As a medium that combines visual, mathematical and psychological principles into one universal interactive experience, the web is exactly the medium that Thomas feels he is suited for. As a result he will continue to develop his skill-set within this medium, always trying to find new ways to push the boundaries of what has been attempted, while creating a lasting mark on the etherial dimension of the world wide web.
