Thomas Heric is an accomplished neurologist, writer, and man of science who spent more than five decades in the medical sphere, advancing the field of neurology. His scientific contributions are cherished throughout the medical community.
Early Life and Education
Thomas Heric was born on November 3, 1936, at the Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital in Los Angeles, California. The son of Effie Marion Coutts and Peter Heric, he spent his early years living in the San Fernando Valley, often visiting the County Museum of Natural History where he spent hours marveling at various exhibitions.
High School Years
He attended the Hollywood High School, along with Debbie Reynolds and David Nelson who later became famous for starring in the “Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet” television series. At the age of 16 he went to UC Berkeley where he studied for five years, before signing with the army where he would spend 3 years and become a Sergeant.
University Years and Starting His Own Practice
After his career with the army, he attended the University of California for his graduate and medical studies, earning an MD and a PhD simultaneously. He also studied at a Neurological Hospital located at the Queen’s Square, in London, England, for a whole year before eventually opening a private practice at Saint John’s Hospital in Santa Monica.
A Long and Fruitful Career in the Field of Neurology
In 1976 he became the Chief of Neurology at Saint John’s Hospital, a role he would keep for the next 15 years while simultaneously managing a successful private practice. In 1991, he became the Senior Vice President of the hospital, a role he had for an additional three years before becoming the Executive Vice President of Network Health Financial Services. He stayed two years in this function before becoming the Medical Director at Tower Health Plan, in 1996. After an additional year of successful work, he retired from the medical field.
