Jonathan Thomas
Jonathan is a Senior Economist at Lloyds Banking Group. Jonathan has over 15 years experience in macroeconomic and financial asset forecasting in both the public and private sectors.
During his academic career, Jonathan lectured and conducted research at the University of Cambridge, where he was a fellow in economics at Emmanuel College, and at University College London. He was also a research associate at the Institute for Fiscal Studies. Jonathan has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed international journals on macroeconomic and econometric issues, including the Economic Journal, the Journal of Labor Economics, and the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society. He has also served as an academic referee for submissions to leading journals and presented his work at institutions such as Princeton University, Harvard University and the University of Oxford.
Jonathan advised the UK government on macroeconomic policy while on a sabbatical at the Department of Trade & Industry and managed several teams of economists at the Bank of England, where he also helped to develop the core macroeconomic forecasting model. He has also worked for a leading London-based hedge fund where he developed and implemented trading systems for futures markets.
Jonathan studied at the London School of Economics, and received his PhD in economics from Queen’s University in Canada where he was a Commonwealth Scholar. He also spent a year on a post-doctoral fellowship at Northwestern University in the US as a National Science Foundation Scholar.
