Thomas Jones
Student in Athens, Ga
Hey there, I’m Thomas. I have always been a huge sports fan, whether that is playing or watching different sports. I grew up playing football, baseball, and lacrosse. However, I always had a favorite which was lacrosse. I fell in love with the sport when some of our family friends from Baltimore came down to visit us and gifted me a lacrosse stick. Before this, I really had no clue what the sport was, but my Dad was from the North and played in college. So I started picking it up and throwing around with him in the backyard when I was young. The only problem with lacrosse in Macon, Ga, was that no one really knew what it was then, and the sport had not really reached this part of the state. Eventually, when I was in lower school, we rounded up enough people around town and started the first-ever team in the city, called the Macon Grizzlies. Then when I reached middle school, there was finally enough buzz for the sport to have school teams around the city. I really fell in love with lacrosse in Middle School. I would even travel an hour and a half to Atlanta in the summer just to practice for different travel teams. I improved as I played for these teams, and by the time I was a freshman in high school, I was able to start for the varsity team. I would eventually lead the region in Points my senior year and make everlasting memories with my team. I even gained a Division 1 lacrosse offer from Mercer but could not stand to stay in Macon any longer and pass up going to the UGA. However, I still find time at school and enjoy playing whenever I get the chance.
