Thom Chu

Thomas K. Chu is an estate planning attorney focusing on the needs of individuals, families, and small-to-medium-sized-business owners through integrated planning for life, business, and beyond. He holds a J.D. from Hofstra Law School and a B.A. from Columbia College.

A wholistic transition plan can take into account any number of possibilities and contingencies, including incapacity and disability, backup procedures and strategies in a business setting, taking care of family members and loved ones, and preparing business assets for possible third-party sale, key employee buyout, or transfer to an adult child. Similar to a general contractor but in a field of legal and financial advisors, Thom can assemble or work with your existing team of experts to craft and maintain a plan that attends to the business and personal needs and aspirations of the owner.

Among other commitments, from 2022-2027, Thom is also serving as a member of The Executive Council of The Episcopal Church, the highest interim decision making body of this mainline Christian denomination. Drawing on his own commitments, an emphasis in his estate planning practice is charitable gift planning whereby clients can benefit both loved ones and causes they love all while gaining valuable tax benefits.
