While there are many social media professionals out there are comfortable self-identifying themselves as experts/gurus/jedi etc., I don't really see myself that way.

While I certainly consider myself knowledgeable about platforms, demographics, uses and trends, for me social media feels like something more than that.

Social media has sparked revolutions, enabled brands reinvent their industries and forced the world to be more open to learning new information. With the influx of content constantly being pushed upon us, I find thrilling to watch how consumers react, or how users decipher what information is truthful, or even when some comedic cat video gives all of my friends a moment of relief during a hectic day.

I've always had an analytical need to gather as much information as I could possible and watch human behavior. Thanks to social media, I can do it professionally (while not looking like a creep).

So am I a rock star/master/evangelist? No.

Am I glued to monitoring trends, watching relationships, adopting technology as early as possible, developing strategy and content, and researching as much as I can at all times?

Yes, and I think that's something awesome (and a little nuts).
