Thomas Kuriakose, MD, is a physician based in New York, NY, specializing in pediatric care, focusing on critical care medicine. Thomas earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Economics from a college in Massachusetts. Following graduation, he joined a teaching program in Mississippi, teaching high school courses in Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry, Statistics, and SATP Biology for three years. His students consistently outperformed state benchmarks. In addition to his role as a teacher, he served as an assistant coach for the track and field and soccer teams, leading student-athletes to state championships. These formative years in education and coaching influenced his decision to enter the field of medicine.
Thomas received a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction before enrolling in medical school in New Jersey. While there, he co-founded a mentorship initiative for adolescents living with HIV and served in leadership roles at a student-run free clinic, including as clinic director. He also contributed to developing a team-based training program to improve safety and communication in clinical care. His dedication to service earned him recognition during his medical education.
During residency, Dr. Thomas Kuriakose participated in leadership initiatives related to health equity and curriculum improvement. As a fellow, his research explores communication between providers and families in pediatric intensive care, particularly in acute respiratory failure cases. He also led the implementation of Health Equity Rounds within his department.
Throughout his medical journey, Thomas has remained committed to volunteer work, advocacy, and mentorship. He has contributed to seminars, abstracts, and presentations addressing disparities and communication challenges in healthcare.
