I am a 20 year-old student at Humber College studying massage therapy. Although I am pretty certain about this path because I love working with my hands and helping others, I am still not 100% about what I want do in the future. I do know that I crave adventure and hope to travel the world and experience new culture, environment and people. Having been to 5 countries so far, I have yet much to see but one day, I hope to have seen the world.

Background

Growing up, I always had an interest in the sciences, particularly biology and sports, so after graduating from high school, I had a decided to take my studies to York University and pursue a kinesiology degree. It seemed like the right decision at the time, but around new years of 2015 was when I was having doubts. I knew I still had a passion health, but did not see a bright future on this path. It was especially difficult even considering switching programs because I had already invested 2 years of my life and a lot of money. Right around the time I finished my second year of studies at York, I had an epiphany about massage therapy. It seemed perfect for my personality as I enjoyed helping others and working with my hands. After much consideration, I made the decision to switch schools and programs to have a new beginning at Humber College and study massage therapy.

Why I want to become a massage therapist

Growing up, I had given my grandmother massages whenever I visited because she was always sore and in return, she rewarded me with five dollars, which at the time was a lot of money. I also used to do gymnastics which put strain on my lower back, so my mother insisted in giving me massages. I later stopped because I had to focus on my academic studies. When I started considering switching programs, I noticed that giving massages was not a chore for me as I was simply satisfied from relieve my grandmother from her pain. I always knew I enjoyed helping others and working with my hands, but could not think of a career path that would allow me to do so until I found massage therapy. I want to become a massage therapist to help others deal with their pain like my grandmother and relieve their pain like my mother did for me.
