Thomas E. Patterson is the authority on handling business litigation. He has extensive experience trying lawsuits for businesses, professionals and entrepreneurs—often on an emergency basis. Tom understands the essential elements of owning and operating a successful law practice since starting his law firm in 2000.
His areas of practice include breach of contract, theft of trade secrets, infringement of trademarks or copyrights, breach of employee agreements, restrictive covenants, shareholder disputes, unfair competition and business torts. His book, "Handling the Business Emergency: Temporary Restraining Orders and Preliminary Injunctions," was published by the American Bar Association in 2009.
Named by Martindale-Hubbell® as AV Preeminent Rated™ Lawyer, Tom lectures on the attorney-client privilege, emergency remedies, e-commerce and expert witness topics. Two of these lectures have been offered online as certified Illinois continuing legal education courses. Named a 2010 Super Lawyer by Super Lawyers Magazine, Tom is a member of Federal Trial Bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the state and federal courts in Illinois and in the Chicago Metropolitan Area. He has been active on committees within the American Bar Association, DuPage County Bar Association and Illinois State Bar Association.
Tom earned his J.D. at DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, IL. While there, he was an editor of the Law Review and published articles. He earned his B.A. at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL and was named an outstanding senior.
