According to the StrengthsQuest, one of my signature strengths is "Futuristic". I am very proud to have this strength, so I would like to reflect a little. Formerly, I was always stuck in the past. I let some of the challenges I lost in the past define who I was. However, around the time I started high school, I started to look forward more often, and think about how I could achieve self-fulfillment by thinking about how I could prevent people from having to go through the same things I did in school. I'd like to think that's what "Futuristic" means, always thinking about what's ahead, and what one can do to achieve success. I am now on track to becoming a school administrator, so I can contribute to movement to save public schools. This goal has been my main drive to succeed academically and has also become a dream I used to motivate myself personally. Overall, being a futuristic thinker has had a very positive effect on my life.
In the course EHE 1100, one of my favorite activities was the "Letter to Myself" assignment, in which we wrote letters to our current selves. I used the assignment as a sort of self-congratulatory piece. Often while getting caught up in my constant efforts to improve my self-image and my thinking, I forgot about all the good things I've done and the achievements I've made. It was great to be have the opportunity to learn to appreciate my own efforts. During this assignment, I also learned how to think about both the past and the future at the same time, and I think it will be helpful in the future to link what I plan to do to what I have already done.
Another activity I enjoyed was the Curriculum Plan. For this assignment, we had to plan out the courses we will be taking each semester for our first two years of college. Being a futuristic thinker, I was very happy to design a two-year plan and learn more about the courses I will have to take in order to apply for my major. It was very helpful to be guided through the scheduling process, and I learned more about how to schedule consciously. Now I will have a firm understanding of how to schedule the appropriate courses and plan my years at Ohio State effectively.
